AI-Based Intelligent Driver Assistant System

Introduction

Driving mining haul trucks is one of the most demanding and high-risk occupations in the mining industry. Long working shifts, physically exhausting environments, and high mental pressure significantly increase the likelihood of human error.
Unfortunately, studies show that a considerable portion of serious mining accidents are caused by driver drowsiness and reduced concentration, leading to severe human and financial losses.

According to international statistics, approximately 20–30% of heavy vehicle accidents occur due to driver fatigue and drowsiness. In mining environments, due to repetitive routes and heavy workloads, this figure can be even higher. Any incident—minor or major—not only endangers drivers’ lives but can also result in multi-billion-rial damage to equipment and production operations.

System Overview

With the goal of improving safety and reducing accidents, Nasir Simulator Tech. Co. has designed and developed an AI-based Intelligent Driver Assistant System.
This system continuously analyzes driver behavior in real time and issues timely warnings when signs of drowsiness or reduced alertness are detected.

Key Points About the System

The system is activated only when the truck speed exceeds 5 km/h.

No images or video data are transmitted outside the vehicle. All data is processed locally inside the cabin using an onboard AI processor.

The primary purpose of the system is to protect the driver and prevent accidents.
It is not designed for monitoring, penalizing, or pressuring drivers; rather, it functions as a “safety companion” that supports and assists them during operation.

Benefits for Drivers and Mining Operations

Reduced risk of accidents caused by fatigue and drowsiness

Protection of the lives and health of drivers and machine operators

Prevention of costly damage to machinery and mining infrastructure

Increased management confidence in professional drivers

Ability to use system reports as a basis for safety incentive and reward programs

Conclusion

Installing the AI-based Intelligent Driver Assistant System not only enhances overall safety in mining operations but, most importantly, directly benefits drivers themselves.
This technology acts as a smart companion, continuously supporting the driver and protecting them from potential risks. By implementing this system, safer working conditions, higher productivity, and greater peace of mind for drivers and mining personnel can be achieved.
